Local elections are always a period of hard professional activity. Managing the electoral results, new councils’ creation and the duty of governing (or being in the opposition)  for four years, it’s also passionating. Now it’s time for the most interesting proof for the new catalan councils and not easy whatsoever: to contrast political objectives with nowadays problems, which are global but local also.

In Gabise we have yet started working on this scenario, altogeteher with politicians in charge for government duties or in the opposition, technicians or experts. Our mission now is focused on finding ways to face the challenges for the new councils, whether inner or outern source. On one side, specially in nowadays cut on wastes, councils are responsible for looking for a steady improvement of management processes, keeping and even increasing their capacity of offering public services with less resources. This situation requires finding new sources for wealth of towns, new paths of collaboration, new synergies... Above all, tracking citizens’ opinions and demands as well as a direct, close communication.

On the other side, the present moment needs the Public Administration to not only good communication but to pass on enough confidence to encourage the creation of new wealth resources. Concretely, it will be necessary for the councils to find the way of explaining issues, clarifying decisions or criteria to people in the forthcoming years. Equally, they will have to make it easy to entrepreneurship activities in towns, or work hard to enrich coexistence.

To make all of this things possible, municipal teams will have to be regularly aware of the opinions, preferences and worries expressed by their neighbours, and how these assess the outputs of government.

In hard moments as it is now, it is advisable to work ways of participation and involvement of citizens in the resolution of social problems, which became widely put forward in the electoral campaign.

It definetely is hard times, complicated, but also stimulating, because ask the best capacities of professional advising. This has to contribute with criticism, try to point out the different alternative solutions, help to set the priorities and improve communication, all in order to serve guiding information for governments to political action.
